When our buildings are healthier, so are we. Our homes and buildings are our sanctuaries; they provide us with a safe place for our families. The materials we build our homes with can greatly affect our health and well being. From the insulation in your walls to the pipes for your plumbing, the materials are often made with harmful chemicals. At Cast, we strive to build new homes and renovations with materials that are healthier for the people who live in them.
Avoiding Harmful Chemicals In Construction
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that people spend up to 90% of their time in buildings. In Vancouver, we have seen tremendous growth in the number of homes and buildings popping up. These buildings are built using critical amounts of products and materials that are either synthetic, chemically treated or processed. Many of these chemicals, such as lead, formaldehyde, mercury, BPA’s, cadmium, neoprene, PCB’s, PVC’s etc. are not only toxic, but highly poisonous. This can have a tremendous impact on your health and the health of your family.
Choosing Healthy and Sustainable Materials
We use only formaldehyde-free plywood for all cabinets and millwork. For interior painting, only low or zero Volatile Organic Compounds paints and primers are used. Cast uses solid wood casings, baseboards, trims and crown mouldings over the use of chemical-laden medium-density fiberboard. For the walls we install all-natural magnesium oxide board to drywall as there is no paper, no potential for mould and it is water and fire resistant.
Minimizing Harmful Construction Products
We cannot always remove 100% of the harmful materials in your home, but we will work to keep these chemical materials to a minimum. From natural fibre healthy carpeting, to using PVC-free wiring, we take every precaution to keep your home as healthy as possible.
Healthy Homes From Vancouver To Whistler
Whether we are renovating a building in North Vancouver or constructing a new home in Whistler, we always look to use healthy, sustainable building supplies that minimize your exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. We work with reputable Vancouver suppliers to source healthy material options for each project that we work on. Choosing eco-friendly materials that are both good for the your health and the environment is a win-win.
